Jakarta Satpol PP Ramps Up Covid-19 Surveillance to Suppress Omicron Cases

The Jakarta administration has called on the public to stay alert for additional Omicron coronavirus variant cases and also urged them to be disciplined in following health protocols anywhere and anytime.

During January 2022, as many as 28,519 people were netted for not wearing masks, where 38,073 of them underwent social work sanctions and 446 others paid administrative fines.

Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Arifin urged all levels to increase monitoring and enforcement activities.

"We should focus more on places that are prone to crowds, such as city parks, traditional markets, shopping centers, and tour sites,' he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Friday (2/4).

He would also be focused on business actors. Along January, the operation was intensified in 6,962 restaurants and cafes, where 356 had to pay fines with a total fine of Rp 10,500,000.

Its operation included disciplinary action on the implementation of restrictions on operating hours, venue capacity and the use of the PeduliLindungi application.

The same action was also spotted in 1,919 workplaces, where 155 of them violated the rules. Including in 5,885 other business places, where 326 of them had to pay fines with a total of Rp 20,000,000.

Then, 170 disbandments were also done at event locations that caused crowds. This action was according to Gubernatorial Regulation number 3/2021 on Bylaw number 2/2020 on Covid-19 Prevention in Jakarta.

"Don't try to trick the officers. This is because we need your cooperation and awareness to contain the virus," he asserted.

As for the information, the sanctions that have been applied so far are not to punish the public, but to protect them by disciplinedly following health protocols in curbing Covid-19.

They can also assist the government in conducting monitoring by reporting PPKM violations via the JakLapor feature in the JAKI application.

Each incoming report will be followed up by officers in the field for enforcement. The identity of the reporter is also kept confidential to provide security for the reporting community.
